Manta Ray Kite Tube

The Manta Ray is a flight-capable towable kite tube created by Sevylor in 2004. Weighing 45 pounds and boasting an 11-foot 'wingspan' it can begin to hover at only 23 mph while traveling against the wind. The actual height the Manta Ray can achieve during 'flight' is only really limited by how much tow rope you have available. At low speeds you can seat two people on the Manta Ray, but Manta Ray's manufacturer absolutely discourages attempting to hover with 2 people.

Sevylor states on their website, "The Manta Ray is extremely safe and stable at low speed. It is much fun for 2 people or even small children." The Sevylor Manta Ray is currently available from various outdoor or watersport-type stores for approximately $500.

In June of 2006, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning concerning the dangers of kite tubes and tube kiting. The warning followed reports of two deaths from tube kiting in only three months and several reports of serious injuries related to kite tubes.
